Our Story

So how did we get the idea for sending out humorous tickets for undesirable behaviors, you might ask? Was it the result of extensive market analysis? Was it the product of years researching consumer trends? Well…not exactly.

The truth is my wife was driving me nuts by leaving every light in the house "on" constantly. If she was upstairs, all the lights in the kitchen, living room, dining room and den were left on. If she was downstairs, every light in the upstairs bedroom, bathroom, closet and foyer were left on. And, it didn't make a difference how many times I gave her "gentle reminders" that she was wasting electricity and money. It was as if she didn't hear me complain at all.

Well, if you're married, you know how gentle reminders turn into arguments and sometimes, into gentle threats of killing one's spouse. Fortunately, rather than having to spend my days in prison, an idea struck me a couple of years ago. (Ironically, it was like a light bulb going off in my head). Instead of nagging my wife, another mode of communication is what she (and I) needed…and it would come in the form of a "household ticket", similar in appearance to a typical traffic summons you get from a police officer.

I envisioned that if I left a summons on her dresser, I wouldn't have to complain nor get into another argument about it. It was simple yet effective. Now, all I needed to do was create a prototype. Modeling it after a traffic summons (which my wife "conveniently" had just received), I designed an eye-catching ticket that was sure to get her attention.

Needless to say, it wasn't long before I had an opportunity to try out my newly created prototype. I wrote her up for "Lights In House Left On", left the ticket on her dresser, and eagerly awaited the results. When she eventually saw the ticket, much to my surprise, she laughed hard and so did I. We were laughing about something that otherwise would be cause for another argument. In appreciation of my humorous efforts, she even agreed to be mindful of turning the lights off.

And so the idea for Penalty Pads® – Humorous Tickets For Undesirable Behaviors was officially born. Epilogue

As you could've guessed, once my idea for a "My Wife" household ticket proved effective, a ticket for "My Husband" was not far behind. My wife was only too enthusiastic about coming up with numerous "offenses" that I (like most husbands) am guilty of committing. In fact, I'm not sure whether to be proud or ashamed that the "My Husband" ticket is our best seller to date.
